JOHN KLOTSCHE REMARKS
MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR DOLLY TAI-LAN LO
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 1995
LADERA COMMUNITY CHURCH - PORTOLA VALLEY, CA

Good moming. My name is John Klotsche and I am Chairman of the Executive Committee of Baker & McKenzie, a partner in the Firm's Palo Alto office and, most importantly, a partner and friend of Dolly Lo.

Professionally, Dolly launched her career with our Firm in 1982 shortly after she graduated from Harvard Law School (1980). This also roughly coincided with the Firm's opening an office in Taipei. Dolly was elected an international partner in the Firm 4 years later, an exceptionally short period of hime even measured by the standards that the Firm then applied.

The success of that venture in Taipei is today beyond question. It has grown the larger law frons in the country. More importantly, the office has built a reputation, both within and without the Firm, as delivering the absolutely finest quality legal services to its mulhinational clients. This did not happen without the efforts of a number of individuals but it would never have happened without the dedication, commitment and resolve of Dolly Lo. As far as Baker & McKenzie is concerned, our Taipei office and Dolly are synonymous.

Dolly's involvement in every aspect of the development of a Taipei office is legend - whether handling the most complex of legal issues, the hiring and encouragement of young associates, forging new areas of legal practice, or designing new office premises. Dolly was always at the center of these activities.

Dolly brought to all of these activities two critical qualities -- a sense of caring and a sense of total commitment. In so many respects she personified the qualities that we strive to achieve in our Firm today.

On a more personal level, for all of us who knew her, Dolly was an inspiration without equal. The inner strength that she mustered up over the past several years to fight her battle with Leukemia was relentless. Medical "miracles" which she is said to have conquered along the way were, to her, part of life's experiences. At the very same time, her extemal zest for life, her family and her profession did not diminish even in the slightest.

Dolly was diminutive physically but will always be remembered as a giant in every other respect. She not only challenged an enormously debilitaning disease that confronted her daily, but she also launched her own crusade at the very same time to assist the medical profession to help others similarly situated.

It can be said that we lost a fine partner and that is most definitely true. She had all the qualities that we aspire for our partners. Equally, it can be said that we lost a friend and that is also true. More importanly is that those of us who knew Dolly can only be said to been enriched by her courage, commitment and resolve.  For this, Dolly, we thank you very much.

Robert H Dilworth Remarks at December 7, 1995 Memorial Service for Dolly Tai-Lan Lo John and Dolly's family asked me to speak today. I should not be speaking. Dolly was sopposed to speak at my funeral. I hope I can get through this without weeping. We are all here because we loved her. We need to reaffirm that common experience  by coming together to remember her and how she touched each of our lives. In the process, and afterwards, we can perhaps better understand her life, her struggle for the last two years, and its outcome. I first met Dolly 17 years ago when she came to clerk in the Taipei office after her first year in law school. I believe Professor Cohen at Harvard Law School had written Bob Yahng that he had an unusual student for us to consider. I discounted that recommendation because law professors often seem to think their students are unusual because the professors are unusual. But the Taipei office was just starting up and we had no other candidates who were Chinese ...
